Silver linings found amidst this “bad year”

Before the pandemic, I wrote an article about why 2020 would be the best year ever. Here are 5 reasons why I think my predictions were correct, despite the turn of events.

1. We picked up a new hobby like baking or cooking.

Many girls in our St. Mary's community began their adventure into the wonderful world of food; some even started accounts like Lizzie Moody’s (12) @moodysmunchies and Ellie Smith’s (11) @_bakedbyellie!

2. NEW FASHION TRENDS!

MASKS! We feel a bit odd being in public without one on. This protective gear has become a staple in our getting ready routines, and the potential colors, designs and logos are endless!

3. The desire to go to school

Whoever thought we would wake up one morning and (literally) JUMP for joy that we could actually go to school instead of staying at home all day and staring at our laptops? I certainly didn’t!

4. Newly found sense of activism

With the copious amounts of time we spent at home this year, we probably spent much of it on social media seeing many classmates attending protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and learning about how we can get involved.

5. You know what TikTok you’re on

This one is pretty self-explanatory: you either know all of the current dances (like the Turkey) or the last dance you ever saw on TikTok was the Renegade… There’s no in between.

Even though this year was not what any of us expected, I will refrain from writing a “2021: best year ever” piece.
