New habits for a new semester

With the start of a new year, it is time that we, as St. Mary’s students, decide to better ourselves with some New Year's resolutions.

  • Stop resting feet on chapel kneelers (it is Rev. Bush’s greatest desire)
  • Use ALAPP productively instead of talking with your books out in front of you
  • Charge your laptop before you get to school, so you don’t run around trying to find a charger to borrow
  • Start homework before 7 p.m. (we all know that leaving it until the last minute is never a good idea, even if it seems like it will turn out well this time)
  • Eat just one, tiny vegetable per day
  • Go a day without eating candy
  • On that note, please stop stealing Mrs. Yarboro’s candy
  • Go one day without doing a Buzzfeed quiz as procrastination
  • Eat lunch (candy doesn’t count as lunch)
  • Follow the dress code (just try it, once … maybe)
  • Be proactive and charge your calculator instead of running into McCalla’s room two minutes before class to borrow one
  • Put papers in the rings of your binder, not the pockets, to avoid the embarrassment of dropping the contents of your binder in the hallway in front of everyone
  • Actually drink water (don’t just carry around a full waterbottle)
  • Use your frees for homework that is due the next day, not today
  • Take an extra second to fix your parking instead of messing up everyone else’s parking
  • Stop using “I’m tired” as a greeting or sentence filler (we are all tired constantly — that’s just life)

I challenge each of you to try one of these New Year's resolutions. You don’t even have to try them for the whole year, just try them for this semester. Maybe. Just one. If you feel like it.
