Evie Fowler

The Beat.

Hey friends!
Welcome to my new column, The Beat. This year, I hope to share my knowledge of and passion for music with the St. Mary's community. I especially hope to write about the revived music industry in Memphis. We are living in such a cool music scene, full of amazing artists, yet many people do not pay any attention to it. So, all that to say, I hope that you use The Beat as a source to find information on new songs, concerts, and musicians this year!
Happy reading, Evie

Last week while most students were going about their normal weekly schedules, around 20 turkey thespians spent their week living out of the theatre for White Christmas tech week. Read more to find out what happens during tech week.
Most people will take advantage of the free time slot from 3:15-4:30 pm to do some homework or run a quick errand before rehearsal starts.

Then, at 4:30 pm, dinner is provided by the amazing parents of the cast.

Around 5:00 pm, everyone will start getting their hair and makeup done before mic check.

Then, it’s off to the stage for a run through of the whole show!
Picture
Around 8:45 pm after the run through, everyone hangs up their costumes, puts up their mics, and goes out to the theatre for notes from Mrs. Madden. This is when she tells everyone what can be improved before opening night.

Tech week would not be possible without the help of the amazing stage and sound crews, the orchestra, the parents of the cast, and of course, Mrs. Madden.
Picture
It also would not be possible without the boys who drive to SMS every day for rehearsal. . .
Nick Larsen (Junior at White Station,) Smith McWaters (Senior at MUS,) Benjamin Cheng (Junior at Briarcrest,) Grayson Todd (Senior at Arlington High School)

Or the wildly talented seniors who put in so much time and effort to make sure that the show is as amazing as possible.

Between the long hours and the hard work to make the show as perfect as it can be, tech week can be stressful; however, these sacrifices allow the cast to grow even closer and give us a taste of what profesional theatre is really like.
