According to Sophie Droke (12), “the Turkey trappers have been [shooting] stronger than ever.” In the February tournament, the powerful team beat Memphis University School and Hutchison School, placing 4th out of 105 competing teams. At the moment, the team is preparing for its annual shoot-off against MUS later this month. “We have won for the past 2 years and are hoping for a third win,” said Droke. Apparently, if the Turkeys win, Head Coach Boyd Wade will dye his beard blue. This year, St. Mary’s alum and national trap shooter Emily Ferguson (‘20) has joined the coaching team to help the shooters practice. “...it has been wonderful to have her stick around for another year,” commented Droke. The team has been preparing tirelessly, even though there are no food trucks or cookouts at the meets this year. So, whether it is through an elbow-bump in the hall or cheering them on from afar, make sure to send your fellow turkeys some support as their trap season springs into action.
