Pre-season practices have begun for my spring sports whose seasons will begin after spring break. Here’s a quick look at whose getting ready for the warmer weather sports.

Down three seniors who were in the top six last year, tennis had over 35 people try out. Tennis is coached by Coach Dan Singer.

Lacrosse is coached by Coach John Bartholomew, Coach Caryn Welsh, and Coach Grant McDermott. The team looks forward to beginning their season which runs from February through May. The team size shrunk from 30 to 24 people this year.

Track and field practices start way before its season begins, as preseason began in November and the season doesn’t start until March. The coaches this year are Coach Mickey Pitts, Coach Kari Duncan, Coach Wendy Gallik, and Coach Eric Janise. Kathryn Smothers (9), who runs the 400 and relays and throws shot-put, says, “This season, I hope the team will grow closer, work well together, and cheer each other on, especially when someone is sick or injured.”

Practice for trap team started in November and the season runs January through July with Coach Bill Quinlen. The team size has shrunk this year, from 36 to 30 people, and they have high hopes for this season.

Make sure to stay on the lookout for the competition schedules, which will be posted around the school once winter sports end.
