With the fall sports’ seasons coming to a successful close, team members and coaches evaluate the season and look forward to next year.
Reflecting on the season, Moody says, “I think this cross country season has been the best one yet. Through the running and team bonding, we all got close to each other, so the team dynamic was really good. With the help of Coach, we also learned to push ourselves to be our very best.”
The varsity soccer team has had a strong season as well. The hard work the team put in during the entire summer and throughout the beginning of the school year paid off; varsity soccer finished in the highest place since they joined Division II. The season ran from August through mid-October.
Considering the soccer season, Coach Casey Crenny, Assistant Athletic Director, says, “They finished third and ended up making the first round at state and then played Harpeth Hall. We fell to them two to one. But, with the injuries on the team and the heat, the team did very well.”
The varsity volleyball team, although not ranking this year in their tournament, had another season for the books nonetheless.
The golf team had a strong showing this fall, with intense competition among local schools. The team, headed by Coach McCalla, ended their season at the regional tournament held at Wyndyke. The team had a great showing at regionals with Cam Lawrence placing seventh.
Golfer Sriya Jampana (10) says, “It was really fun, I think we got to bond as a team, especially on drives to practices and games. A lot of our matches were canceled because of the rain but we still did pretty well. I can’t wait to see how we do in the coming years.”
SMS is proud of their fall sports teams’ performances and are looking ahead to another year of success!
