With the start of the basketball season, many students are curious about what the season will look like this year because of social distancing and the new freshmen who are joining the team.

Faith Preston (12), who has played on the basketball team all four years of high school, said, “We actually practiced with the [current] freshman last year, and all of them are great additions to the team! I really enjoy this year’s group as there is a wide variety of grades, and [it] really keeps things interesting.”

The best ways to support the basketball team are keeping in touch with the turkey.nation Instagram account, listening to chapel announcements, and talking with the players.

Members of the team include Lily Kate Heard (9), Izzy Issacs (9), Laurel Lund (9), Kaela Keith (10), Erin Roy (10), Mary Claire Carney (11), Jane Chancellor (11), Kai Keith (11), Louise Laney (11), Ellie Smith (11), Carolin Stem (11), Kyla Kendrick (12) and Faith Preston (12)

“Currently, McNeill gym can hold about 50 pods. Each Pod is 6 feet apart from the next. …  All pods will be sold to family members first, but all leftover pods will be up for grabs to all students and faculty.” Coach Crenny, Assistant Athletic Director, said.

Crenny added, “There will be links to a livestream each game for students to view. The first game will stream on Nov. 30.”

Of course, all athletics must follow the Shelby County Health department guidelines, so if those change the school will make adjustments.

“I am incredibly excited about this season and the girls on the team. They all have so much potential on and off the court,” Preston said.
