By Chloe WebsterIntroducing a St. Mary’s travel blog. Find out where you need to go next! Over spring break, St Mary’s girls and faculty went all over the world. From mountaintops to hot, busy cities, students and teachers found the perfect paradise to spend their week-long vacation from schoolwork and grading papers. Here are some fellow turkeys’ stories. Ellen Parker (10) went to the beautiful state of Wyoming for some winter skiing action. Hanging with some family, she got to spend her days on the slopes of Jackson Hole, one of the coolest and cutest towns in the United States. Not only did she get to ski, but she also had the opportunity to go tubing at Snake River, a fun and relaxing break from the rigors of skiing. Parker really enjoyed her time in the mountains and would totally go back for some more snow. Mr. Nichols had the experience of a lifetime during his bachelor party trip to Mexico City with five of his friends. This escape to some sunny weather was full of adventure and activity. Mr. Nichols climbed the pyramids in Teotihuacan, an ancient Mesoamerican city, boated down the canals of Xochimilco and watched a lucha libre wrestling match. As for dining, he and his friends ate at Pujol, a restaurant owned by the famous chef Enrique Olvera. Oh, and not to mention, Pujol is ranked the 20th best restaurant in the world. This pre-wedding party explored, learned, dined and had some serious fun. Rachel Beem (10) also enjoyed some time on the slopes in the quaint town of Glenwood Spring, Colorado, near the Sunlight Ski Slopes. With its great runs, short lines and good food, this small ski mountain serves as a hidden niche that only the locals seem to know about. Beem even got to witness the record 199 inches of snowfall that Glenwood Spring has gotten this year. Jessica Joshi (10) and Abigail Apple (11) visited Cardenas, Cuba with Idlewild Presbyterian Church on a mission to serve the people of the area. They stayed in Idlewild’s sister church, Juan G. Hall. This program’s goal is to bridge the gap between the communities of Memphis and Cardenas by making bonds with the people there. After serving during the week, they had the opportunity to visit the Matanzas Seminary and Havana. Camila Cabello would be proud. McKinley Gilmore (10) traveled to Park City, Utah to ski at the well-known Deer Valley Resort. This mountain is a favorite to many skiers, and while that may be because of the lack of what some call obnoxious snowboarders, the real draw is the gorgeous views, well-groomed runs and lively atmosphere. Gilmore also enjoyed the perks of having a ski rental service that brought her skies and boots right to her hotel room. Deer Valley sure knows luxury! After a few days of skiing, going into Park City for some shopping, dining and much-needed hot chocolate is a great way to relax. So, looking for a new vacation spot? These trips definitely help in figuring that out, whether service, sun, or skiing is on your itinerary. Wherever your next adventure may take you, make sure to keep a curious and eager spirit, relax, learn something new and let Tatler know, so we can feature you in an upcoming edition of “Turkey Travel.”
