By Emma HurstArt by Charlie LaMountain The beloved tradition of Mr. Valentine will still be happening in 2021. Every year, a group of boys come together to compete for the title of Mr. Valentine, taking part in various competitions to win the hearts of the St. Mary’s student body.
Coach Hensarling said, “We take nominations for the boys, then we vote on the top four to six to participate in it.” “It’s a lot of coordinating with the boys,” said Student Council President Jennifer Ruffin (12). This year, instead of a live event, Mr. Valentine will be a video. “We met in hour shifts to film everything with the boys to put it all together,” Hensarling said. On the day of the event, seniors will view it in the dining hall, juniors in Rose Theater, sophomores in Cheney Parish Hall and freshmen in their advisors’ rooms. Once the show has finished, everyone will vote online for who they think deserves the title of Mr. Valentine. The boys competing this year are Zander Mathes (9), William Patteson (12), Turner Bishop (11), Eddie Perez (10) and Charlie Crosby (12).
