Many students wonder whether events like Derby Day and Springfest will happen this year. Luckily, Ms. Rogers has revealed some insight about Spring plans.
Of course, as a disclaimer, Ms. Rogers reminded that COVID-19 mitigations would be at the front of decision-making related to Spring events.
Rogers first addressed Derby Day. She said “The student council is working on coming up with ways for students to have turkey levels of fun while being COVID safe. The planning process is still very much underway.” Derby Day is currently scheduled for Friday, April 9th.
Another longstanding St. Mary’s tradition is Springfest, during which the queen and princess are recognized, and the seniors pass on the school leadership to the juniors. “We are currently planning Springfest. We are imagining ways in which the seniors will formally pass on leadership to the juniors. That will happen,” said Rogers. Yes, juniors and seniors will get to wear blue and white. Springfest is planned for Thursday, April 22.
The Father Daughter Dance on April 8 will be only for senior families this year. The event will be in the dining hall, and the girls will receive to-go desserts and be able to enjoy dancing with their fathers or special guests. Masks will be worn to enable the families to have as much fun as possible.
“All changes we are making are intended to keep the St. Mary’s traditions alive and enable our community to celebrate together. The virus changes every day, so our response has to change too. As soon as we know what that looks like, we will let folks know so that we can celebrate together, safely of course,” said Rogers.
“I think April will be a really fun month for us,” said Rogers.
