On Nov. 10, Senior Lauren Mabie officially committed to swim and attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. As she signed her letter of intent, her teachers, family, and friends gathered to celebrate her accomplishments — both in swimming and at St. Mary’s. When asked how Lauren became known as “a swimmer,” she says the journey began when she was only six years old.

“I started swimming summer league when I was six, but I started swimming competitively when I was eight” Lauren explains. “From the time I was eight to last August, I swam for Memphis Tigers Swimming, and then I moved to swim for Germantown Swim Team for a year. But I just had to rejoin Memphis Tigers again.”

Lauren is immensely excited to begin her college experience as a Division 1 athlete. “I am really looking forward to this new team. My team experience has been crazy and chaotic . . . but I am really looking forward to . . . the consistency and the family [that swimming for TCU] offers” says Lauren.

Although Lauren has proven herself a talented athlete, swimming is not all that is on her mind. “I am looking forward to the freedom [that college entails],” Lauren admits. Still, when asked what she wants to study, Lauren confesses she is very indecisive. “But I really like science . . . so I want to be a doctor” she says.

Both St. Mary’s and Lauren herself are proud of the swimmer she has become and are eager to witness what her future swimming career holds at TCU. Lauren says, “I am super excited to work there because it’s a new atmosphere . . . I have reached my potential . . . this is what I can do, and I did it.”
