By Brennan SeltzerPhoto courtesy of Caroline Goodman. Ms. Taylor Gray is one of the newest members of the St. Mary’s community. She moved to Memphis to teach ninth-grade biology starting at the beginning of the second semester.
Gray recently received her Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry and her Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Texas Christian University. Having worked with high school freshmen when she was an undergraduate, she is the perfect fit for the job. According to Gray, being the new teacher and having to comprehend hybrid learning all at once is no walk in the park. She specifically noted the difficulty of taking a job where students did not have stability previously in the school year. Students described Gray as very well-liked. Many girls explained that Gray’s being younger makes her a more relatable teacher. “She has already adapted really well under the circumstances, and she’s a great and very understanding teacher,” Ellis Rougeou (9) said. Although Gray is still adjusting to the school, she said, “I think it’s pretty clear to see that everybody is very close and [St. Mary’s] is a very supportive environment… I feel very welcomed.”
