One of the most beloved members of our community, Ms. Tori Hill, has sadly left her job at St. Mary’s. Any person who has ever talked to Ms. Tori can attest to her friendly demeanor, humor and kindness. She has given so much to our school, so I’d like to revisit her favorite memories at St. Mary’s.

What is your favorite memory from your time at St. Mary’s?
“My favorite memory was receiving the Apple Award in 2018 on my 40th birthday. It was such a surprise because I only knew of teachers getting the award, so I did not expect it at all, and I was very grateful that day.”

What are you going to miss the most?
“I’m going to miss the girls, especially Erika Ross, Ashley Graflund and Jennifer Ruffin. Shelby Williams and Evie Oliver always asked about my day, and Laura Yakoub hugged me at least twice a day. They’re the reason I enjoy my job, and the reason why I’ll miss St. Mary’s the most.”

Are you excited to work at St. Columba?
“I’m excited for a new change, but I’m definitely going to miss St. Mary’s.”

How has St. Mary’s impacted you?
“The students are a real inspiration to me. They’re the reason that I decided to go back to college and finish my degree. When I had to write a 10-page paper for school, Mrs. Akers and Mrs. Evans helped me with all of my citations. They graded me harder than my professor, but that’s the reason that I got an A on it.”

What has been the funniest thing you’ve experienced at St. Mary’s?
“I remember when Hayden Hedges climbed a tree during recess, and Mrs. Lyttle yelled at her to get out of that tree! I remember when the class of 2021 presented me with my poster congratulating me on graduating, and Daja Lee signed her name really big but upside down. I always love seeing the girls at the Halloween Bazaar and on Derby Day. I love getting my Black Friday notes because they’re always funny and sweet.”

Though Ms. Tori is making the best decision for her career path, she will miss her time at St. Mary’s. She wished she did not have to go, but if she ever has the opportunity to come back and the circumstances are right, she would love to do so.

Goodbyes can be kind of sad, but at the same time, they are also everything to people who are having a hard time. I do feel like I have made a few sad goodbyes in my past. I understand, it is not easy to just say goodbye to a person, but at the same time, it can mean a lot. I have said goodbye to people who really wrecked my life in the past, and it had really made my life a lot healthier.
