It’s that time of year again. Valentine’s Day. You may be brooding to yourself, “I’m just gonna be all alone again.”
You might be right, BUT instead of drowning in your own loneliness, I have a solution for you. You should go to Mr. Valentine.
Mr. Valentine is a long-time St. Mary’s tradition in which every year, a group of boys from different schools come to win the hearts of SMS girls and the title of Mr. Valentine, and this year we have some great candidates.
In a very exclusive interview with Celia Stem (12), Student Council President, and Kate Stukenborg (12), Pep Club President, I got some interesting details.
The Mr. Valentine preparations start with choosing the candidates. Stem said, “There is a StuCo meeting with all the StuCo representatives from the clubs and grades. Everyone throws out names so we basically hear from every part of the highschool. We put all the names down and send out a google form and people vote for the candidates. From there we get our five to six candidates.”
Stukenborg said that she did not want to give away too much about the video, but she did drop some interesting hints. She said “We wanted to do our video Bachelor/Bachelorette style. There is a lot of turkey (the SMS mascot) in the video. There are also a lot of dramatic scenes. In the interviews they gave really good answers and they were hilarious. They got very into it.” The two talked about how great the guys got along despite not knowing each other that well, and how easily they were able to work with them.
Stukenborg said “We can’t reveal any activities, but there will be some activities from the past. We are trying to make it as fun and cool as possible. We are gonna do movie scenes again but this time we are going to make them juicer.” The only way to find out what they are would be to go to Mr. Valentine.
Finally, I asked them what their most memorable Mr. Valentine experience was. Stem says, “I do not remember his name, but he did not win. But, he did the funniest dance routine.” Stukenborg says, “There was this pair that came from White Station and their talent was eating saltine crackers and naming countries.”
Stem and Stukenborg say that it is gonna be very fascinating this year. The guys are really enthusiastic and are up to do anything. To learn more about the guys and get hyped, all of you should go see the video that they will be previewing February 12 during ALAAP.
Mr. Valentine will be February 13 during O, so make sure all your homework gets done if you want to be there!
