By: Eleanor JamesBelieve it or not, there is actually an internet browser that plants trees! Find out more about this revolutionary technology. As St. Mary’s students, we are drawn to help the communities around us. Recently, the search engine Ecosia has become a popular and simple way to better our environment.
Ecosia is a browser extension that raises money to plant trees with the ad revenue generated from clicking on a website or link every time someone searches on the internet. The plug-in is very user friendly and has already raised enough money to plant over six million trees. Meredith Mikell, the One Schoolhouse AP Environmental Science teacher says, “it’s a great website that is easy to use, but also has huge potential to change our world.” It only takes 11 seconds on a website to plant a tree, and in the top right corner, it tells how many trees have planted from money you raised so far. With so many benefits and few drawbacks, Ecosia has become a big hit around the world. Grace Sammarco (11) says that as a member of the Environmental Club, she loves Ecosia because “it pioneers a new way to combat global issues with modern technology.”
