Halloween is more than trick-or-treating and spooky movies

With typical Halloween activities like the Mid-South Corn Maze, haunted houses, and parties either being cancelled or looking a little different this year, I struggled to think of something non-conventional to get me in the Halloween spirit. After watching “Hocus Pocus” way too many times, I became inspired. A metaphysical supply shop was just what I needed.

Metaphysical shops sell practically any item needed to inspire your Halloween mood.

Out of the few stores in Memphis, I chose The Broom Closet. Located in Downtown Memphis, it was surrounded by other popular businesses like the Arcade Restaurant, Memphis Escape Rooms, and Ernestine and Hazel’s.

At the front of the store, I was instantly overwhelmed with the amount of crystals they had and the strong smell of incense burning. As I moved further back, the items became more specialized; they seemed to be for people who were more knowledgeable than I. There was a huge selection of incense and sage, as well as many types of soaps, oils, candles, and herbs. These all have different purposes like protection, healing, or potion making. There was even a selection of cauldrons of any size you may need for mixing ingredients.

To be in the store for the first time was quite overwhelming. I found myself engaged in conversation with the manager, asking about the significance of the products that were foreign to me. He pointed me in the direction of their bookshelves, filled with guides to all kinds of crafts and recommended a book for teens.

The Broom Closet definitely lived up to my expectations of getting me into the Halloween spirit. Its wide range of foreign items left me wanting to know more and the significance of the store’s products.
