Last year shouldn’t only be remembered for its top hits.

Here is a list of some hidden musical treasures from 2018 that I keep near and dear to my heart:

Don’t Let Me Down (Sabrina Claudio feat. Khalid) - This song is a great one to listen to while doing homework. Light a candle, play it on low volume, and you are all set for a killer study session.

Lucy (Still Woozy feat. ODIE) - Still Woozy never fails to deliver the perfect chill songs. All of his music has a quirky and fun vibe, making it the epitome of “stress free.”

you should see me in a crown (Billie Eilish) - If you have never listened to Billie Eilish, this is a great song to introduce her into your life. Inspired by one of the major villains of BBC’s “Sherlock,” it is a perfect example of the way the young artist creates different characters in her songs.

Deep Down (Zhavia) - I think it is safe to say that many people were surprised when Zhavia did not win “The Four: Battle for Stardom” in its first ever season; however, she did not let the loss keep her from achieving her goals as an aspiring singer-songwriter. Since then, she has released a number of singles, including “Deep Down,” about her journey from the bottom.

Suncity (Khalid feat. Empress Of) - With vocals from the  Latin American singer Empress Of, the song features lyrics in both Spanish and English. Even though it is not his native language, Khalid takes part in the Spanish sections of the song, and he sings it so well that you might assume he is fluent.

Sometimes (Cub Sport) - If you like indie pop, you will love Cub Sport. Their new single is so much fun to listen to when channeling your inner angsty teen.

Upper West Side (King Princess) - King Princess is an absolute legend. Her song, “Upper West Side,” is a slow but well-paced bop that can instantly calm you down if you are having a rough day.

Guardian angel (XXXTENTACION) - It is really easy to get caught up in the rhythm of this song and completely overlook the message. Through the lyrics, XXXTentacion recounts a time of heartbreak and loss in his life while also apologizing to the people he hurt during that time. Simply put, the song is art.

You Owe Me (The Chainsmokers) - If you ever feel like life is just complicated, give this song a listen. It has a simple yet catchy chorus that is easy to learn and fun to sing in the shower.

Ruthless (The Marías) - This song reminds me of something Lana Del Rey would write and Cheryl Blossom would listen to. Enough said.

Jet Fuel (Mac Miller) - Mac Miller was a pro when it came to hip hop and rap. The lyrics in his songs never cease to amaze me. However, in my opinion, the best part of “Jet Fuel” would have to be the ending. The beauty of such an ending lies in the fact that it can be interpreted many different ways because it is so intimate and emotional.

Movement (Hozier) - Almost everyone knows Hozier for his more famous songs like “Take Me To Church” and “Like Real People Do,” but I believe this song deserves just as much recognition.

Shotgun (George Ezra) - This is an upbeat, “feel good” song that would be perfect to sing along to while riding shotgun in the car with your friends.
