By Phoebe Lusk-HussongGiant, glowing bunnies infiltrate Overton Park with the Brook’s new exhibit Intrude. “Giant bunnies in Overton? Who would’ve thought?” Grace Sammarco (11) exclaims. She is referring to the five, giant, illuminated bunnies that have overtaken Overton Park’s Greensward. Intrude is the title of this exhibition created by Australian artist Amanda Parer. These bunnies have been displayed on four continents and in over 50 cities.
Intrude was created in 2014 by Amanda Parer to bring light to Australia’s problem with rabbit population control. Rabbits have destroyed parts of the ecosystem in Australia and there have been no successful ways to get rid of them. The large bunnies bring attention to the problem and as Parer explains, “Intrude explores the natural world, its fragility, and our role within it.” The show is completely free for the public. The Brooks will be screening movies in their theater to accompany the show, including Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie on the 28, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail on the 29. There will also be an Instagram contest hosted by Brooks that offers prizes to the best photos of the bunnies for each day. The exhibition will be open until January 29.
