On Sunday, Aug. 22, the varsity soccer team were crowned champions at the High School Soccer Cup in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
The team secured the victory in all three games throughout the weekend tournament. They competed against Daviess County High School from Kentucky, Karns High from Tennessee, and Frederick Douglass High School from Kentucky.
The team impressively managed to score points within the first three minutes of two of their games. In their last game against Frederick Douglass High, Carrington Davis (12) scored a stunning goal off of a set piece from just outside the 18-yard box.
In addition to taking home the first place trophy of the tournament, the team took the time during the trip to bond with one another.
“One of my favorite moments from the trip was just being on the bus with the whole team, both JV and varsity. You could tell we were a whole lot closer after this tournament. On the way home, our energy was super high coming off the win and we spent the majority of the seven hours screaming songs. We were all just existing together and it was nice because I don’t think that we’ve had a team as close as we are in my four years,” says Amelia Dowling (12).
The victory at the High School Soccer Cup set a winning foundation for the team.
“This tournament win really sets the tone for the season – it gives us confidence, momentum, and more experience for the rest of the season,” said Jane Chancellor (12).
