This year’s Beale Street lineup, released on Feb. 13, contained many major headliners such as Cardi B, Khalid, The Killers, OneRepublic, and more. A survey sent to upper school students asked if they were excited for the artists, if they were going to Beale Street, and if they plan on going all three days. According to this survey, 80% of the responders plan on going, but are these artists really worth going for?
First up, we have Dave Matthews Band (DMB). DMB was formed in 1991 in Charlottesville, Virginia and usually performs rock music. As you can tell, St. Mary’s is not very excited for Dave Matthews Band.
For all charts, voters rated their excitement from 1 (least excited) to 5 (most excited).
Next, The Killers. The Killers were formed in 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their style of music also includes rock. Although Many people do not know of The Killers, they do knows their most popular hit: “Mr. Brightside.” Although some students are not as excited, many are absolutely eager.
Now onto the one and only, Cardi B. Cardi B is a fairly new rapper has been active since 2015 but broke out in 2017 with her hit single “Bodak Yellow.” Since then, Cardi B has released an album along with many other hit singles including, “I Like It” and “Finesse (Remix) [feat. Bruno Mars].” Because of her personality and style of music, the majority of students SUPER pumped.
Up next, the only artist more than half the upper school said they were excited for, Khalid. Khalid started singing in 2015, self-releasing his hit-single “Location.” After this, Khalid has become a chart-topping artist whom many have come to love, including the girls of St. Mary’s who are very anxious for this once in a lifetime performance.
Sadly, students were not as excited about the following artists. G-Eazy and OneRepublic got mixed reviews, the majority of students feeling somewhat excited but not very. The next three artists had a majority vote of NOT EXCITED. Fifty percent of students voted “not very excited” for Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Trippie Redd, while 47.3 percent said the same about 6lack.
However, there are plenty more artists SMS students are excited to see, including NLE Choppa, COIN, Good Charlotte, Lord Huron, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Madison Beer. While many think these artists are “not worth buying tickets for” or that this year’s lineup is bad, I believe Beale Street will be fun as long as you make it fun. These artists are known to give once in a lifetime performances and are known to NOT disappoint. Check in after Beale Street to get the inside scoop of the festival from columnist Evie Fowler and me.
